How does ICAN determine what a student knows about certain subjects? Or how does ICAN determine an individual's level of skill in a certain area? One of the most common ways to do this is to use level tests. Level tests are designed to measure a person's level of skill, accomplishment, or knowledge in a specific area.

New students are regularly expected to demonstrate their learning and proficiency in a variety of subjects. In most cases, certain scores on these tests are needed in order to provide them with proper classes and curriculum.


Research on the impact of tests on learning indicates that tests exert a strong influence on classrooms and education policy in general. Good tests lead to good teaching, which leads to good learning. For example, a test which includes a speaking component will likely lead to classrooms which focus on developing communicative skills.

The Analyzer is used to get the accurate level of the student in the following criteria:

  • 4 Macro Language Skills: Reading, Writing, Interview and Listening(Comprehension and Note-Taking)

  • 5 Articulation Skills: Narrative, Descriptive, Expository, Argumentative and Persuasive

  • Fundamental Language Skills: Grammar and Vocabulary

Test Areas


The testing of grammar is one of the mainstays of language testing. While such tests test the ability to either recognize or produce correct grammar and usage, they do not test the ability to use the language to express meaning. 


It's helpful to determine a student's reading level so you can find books that are appropriate for them to read on their own: not too difficult but challenging enough to encourage growth. Reading level classification is a convenient tool you can use when searching online or at the library.



Educators should test vocabulary that they expect their students to know or to use. Research shows that learners can recognize more words than they can actually use. Teachers need to decide between testing high frequency words or more specialized technical vocabulary



Listening enhances children's ability to use the other language arts. Teaching listeningallows students to follow directions, understand expectations, and make sense of oral communication. As children improve as listeners, they learn to use the same strategies to improve their command of the other language arts.



Writing assessment can be used for a variety of appropriate purposes, both inside the classroom and outside: providing assistance to students, awarding a grade, placing students in appropriate courses, allowing them to exit a course or sequence of courses, certifying proficiency, and evaluating programs– to name some.


Digital Literacy

When students aretaught digital literacy, they get more than just exposure to technology: they develop important life skills that lead to a deeper understanding of the digital world and curate content in a way that is useful and relatable.
